DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (FOX 9) - State Sen. Nicole Mitchell, a Democratic representative from Woodbury, Minnesota, has been taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree burglary in Becker County.
On Monday, Mitchell was booked into Becker County Jail following an incident that occurred early in the morning.
According to Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd, officers were dispatched to a residence at approximately 4:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mitchell inside the home.
As of Monday evening, Mitchell was still in custody. Chief Todd confirmed that the police department has submitted its findings to the Becker County Attorney's Office for a decision on potential charges.
Elected to office in 2022, Mitchell is currently in her first term as a Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) state senator. She holds the position of vice chair on the State and Local Government and Veterans Committee.
Prior to her political career, Mitchell worked as a television meteorologist in the Twin Cities area. Additionally, she serves as a lieutenant commander in the Air National Guard.
